Matcha · Drinks
This one started as a silly idea and turned into something I genuinely could not stop thinking about. Birthday cake milk is exactly what it sounds like and it works with matcha in a way that is completely unserious and completely delicious. The matcha cream top adds that grassy, slightly bitter note that keeps it from being too sweet, and the red bean tang yuan on top make it feel like an actual celebration in a glass. I made this for my birthday and it felt right.
OR make your own:
Sheldon Creek Dairy Birthday Cake Milk is available at select grocery stores in Ontario. If you cannot find it, the homemade version works beautifully. Use a small electric frother to whisk the matcha cream top for the best texture. The tang yuan can be made from scratch or found frozen at most Asian grocery stores. Cook them according to the package and let them cool slightly before placing on top so they do not melt the cream.
