Made for slow Saturdays

I started How About Saturday in 2020 during lockdown, from my home kitchen in Toronto, with no formal strategy and no audience. Just a deep love of baking, a camera, and a need to make something beautiful in an uncertain time. What began as a place to document cozy bakes and seasonal drinks has grown into a full creative practice built around slow living, Asian-inspired baking, and the kind of food that makes an ordinary Saturday feel like something worth celebrating.

I grew up in Malaysia, and so many of my earliest food memories are tied to flavour in a very specific way. Pandan custard. Warm soy milk from the market. The smell of jasmine tea steeping in a clay pot. That sensory memory is the foundation of everything I make here. My Flavours of My Childhood series is an attempt to recreate those recipes from home, the ones that live in your body rather than in any cookbook.

Alongside the nostalgia, I am deeply obsessed with matcha, tea-infused desserts, and finding ways to make everyday baking feel a little more intentional. You will find layered cakes, whipped cream experiments, butter mochi, basque cheesecakes, and a lot of matcha lattes on this site. I am also a Registered Behaviour Analyst by profession, which means I bring the same love of process and detail to my baking as I do to my clinical work. Precision matters. But so does joy.

My recipes are not about perfection. They are about the process, the ritual, and the quiet pleasure of making something with your own hands. Whether you are here for the baking, the drinks, or just the cozy vibes, I am really glad you found your way to this little corner of the internet. Pull up a chair. Something good is probably already in the oven.
