Guava Oolong Cream Cheese Milk Tea

Guava and oolong milk tea takes me back immediately to the drinks stalls in Malaysia where you could get a cold tea with fruit combinations that felt completely natural and completely specific to that place. Making this in Toronto with canned guava juice and loose leaf oolong is not quite the same thing but it is close enough to make me feel like I am somewhere familiar.

Ingredients

Oolong Tea

Guava Cream Top

Method

  1. 1 Whisk the oolong powder with hot water until smooth and fully dissolved. Set aside.
  2. 2 In a small bowl, whisk guava jam, cream cheese, heavy cream, and milk until smooth and slightly thickened.
  3. 3 Add guava jam to the bottom of a glass, then fill the glass with ice and milk.
  4. 4 Slowly pour the prepared oolong tea over the milk to create layers.
  5. 5 Spoon the guava cream on top and serve.

Tips & Notes

Brew the oolong strong about double the usual amount of tea leaves. The cream cheese foam is the star here, so don't rush the whipping process. Fresh guava juice is ideal but a good quality guava nectar works too.
