Milky Oolong Matcha Latte

I made this on a whim one morning when I wanted matcha but also wanted something a little more interesting than my usual. Steeping the Osulloc milky oolong directly into warm oat milk was an accident that I immediately knew I would repeat. The oat milk picks up this creamy, slightly floral quality from the tea that pairs with matcha in a way I did not expect. The maple syrup at the bottom means every sip starts a little sweeter and gets earthier as you go. It takes five minutes and honestly it has become my most made drink of the year.

Ingredients

Method

  1. 1Heat the oat milk in the microwave for 1 minute. Watch it closely and remove as soon as you see it starting to bubble up to avoid scalding.
  2. 2Add the milky oolong tea bag to the warm oat milk and steep for 2 minutes. Remove the tea bag.
  3. 3Whisk the matcha powder with the water until smooth and frothy with no lumps.
  4. 4Fill a glass with ice and drizzle in the maple syrup.
  5. 5Pour the steeped oat milk over the ice.
  6. 6Pour the whisked matcha over the top and serve immediately.

Tips & Notes

The milky oolong tea bag from Osulloc Tea is what makes this drink special. Keep an eye on the oat milk while it heats as it can bubble up quickly. Do not over-steep the tea or the oat milk can turn slightly bitter. Pour the matcha last so it floats on top before you stir it through.
